Ans: - Families like Dhanu’s worked on the lands of big farmers only for six months.
So they had to borrow money from the Mukadam.
Since mukadam is an agent of the sugarcane factories so the families had to work in the sugarcane factories.
c.       Why did Dhanu’s family wish that Dhanu should go to school for the whole year?
Ans: - Dhanu’s family wished that Dhanu should go to school for the whole year so that Dhanu should get something better in life.

Ans: - Ladies with small children, the old and the sick people stay behind. They could not work and they had to look after the houses and the cattle so they had to stay back.

Ans: - If I am not able to go to school for a long time I cannot cope up with the advance syllabi.
b.      Why Dhanu did not use his pencils, erasers and notebooks for a long time?
Ans: - Dhanu could not go to school for six months as he had to move out of the village for six months. So he could not study and use his stationary.
c.       Why the moods of the people of Dhanu’s village suddenly change after the celebrations of the festival?
Ans: - The mood of the people suddenly changed because the mukadam had come to lend them money and for that they had to leave their village and move to the sugarcane factories for work.
d.      Is farming possible without rain? How? Name some means of irrigation.
Ans: - Yes, farming is possible without rain. These days there are many artificial means of irrigation for farming e.g. tube wells, rahat and electric pumps etc.
