Ans: Celebrities are used to convince us as we consider them our heroes and so we feel that the
product they are promoting is worth buying.

Ans: The main aim of the advertisements is to convince the consumer to buy the particular
product. They also claim certain special values for their brand.

1. How do advertisements influence the lives of people? Explain with the help of an example?
Ans: Advertisements plays a major role in our lives. They influence us to a great extent. We
watch advertisements, discuss them and often judge people according to the brand products
they use. Whenever we see cricket heroes and film stars advertising different products we feel
tempted to buy those products.
Advertisements tell us how we should live our lives, what we should aspire and dream for, how
we should express our love, what it means to be smart, successful and beautiful. Thus
advertisements have significant role in our lives. In the present scenario, we cannot think of a
life without advertisements.
For example: the care soap advertisement uses the mother’s concern for her child.
2. Can you explain two ways in which you think advertising affects issues of equality in a
democracy?
Ans: Two ways in which advertising affects issues of equality in a democracy:
a. It only focuses on the lives of the rich and famous and forget about the issues of poverty,
discrimination and dignity.
b. Advertising tends to promote a certain lack of respect for the poor as in a democracy, all
people are equal and should be able to lead a life of dignity.
3. What is the aim of social advertisement? Give one example to explain your answer.
Ans: Social advertisements are advertisements made by state or private agencies. These
advertisements have a big message for the society. For example most of the time the social
advertisement “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” focuses on making people aware of saving and
educating girl child.
4. Why should the customer be careful before believing an advertisement?
Ans: customers should be careful before believing an advertisement because:
a. Customers must understand that the big claims made by the companies for their products
are true or not.
b. They must know that the price of the product is worthy of its quality.
c. Is the product is covering the whole society and only a particular group.
