Ans: There are various types of deserts in the world.

Deserts that are found between 15° to 30° north and
south of the equator are hot desert; for example, Sahara Desert in Africa, Thar
Desert in India and Mexican Desert in Mexico.

The second type of desert is the temperate desert, such as Gobi Desert.
c.
The third type of the desert is the cold desert, for example, the Tundra
in Russia.

Ans: The important industries of Saudi Arabia are petroleum, refineries,

handicrafts etc.

are:
Date, palm, fruits, vegetables, wheat, barley,
cotton, rice tobacco, rage etc.

Describe the climate of Saudi Arabia.
Ans: Saudi Arabia experiences the world’s
hottest temperature at 520C.
The summer season is from May to September and
the winter season is from October to April.The weather is very hot and dry
during the day time but nights are cooler.
In the coastal area, the temperature is mild.
Rainfall is very scanty ( less than 25cm.)

Who are Bedouins? What is their
lifestyle?
Ans: Bedouins are nomads, who go from one place
to another in search of green pastures.They lead a simple life. They live in
tents made of animals hide or cloth and pitch them near pastures and call it
home. The long rows in which they move with their belongings and camels are
called caravans.

What do you know about the plant life
of this region?
Ans: In Saudi Arabia, only plants that can live
and survive the heat and water shortage can grow. Most of the plants have long
roots that go deep into the ground in search of water. Various types of cacti
grow here. Cacti have thorns instead of leaves so that there is less loss of water
through evaporation. Many other plants like date, palms, vegetables, fruits,
wheat, barley, ragi etc. grow here.

1. Despite the heat, why do men wear
long robes in the desert and cover themselves from head to toe? Write your
answer keeping in mind the climatic factors of the region.
Ans: The men in Saudi Arabia wear long robe and cover themselves from
head to toe as it protects them from the direct heat of the sun and the sand
storms as well.

1. Water is scarce in desert. Being
goods citizens we should conserve as much water we can. How can you as a
student do this?
Ans: We can conserve water by the following ways:
a. By turning off the taps when not in
use.
b. By repairing leakage wherever
required.
c. By using bucket and mug to wash the
floor and vehicles instead of pipes.
d. We can use the waste water from
kitchen to water the plants.
