Oral Questions:
1.      What is a government?
Ans: Government meansan organization which makes and implements laws and policiesin a country.
2.      What does the Parliament consist of?
An: The Parliament consists of the President, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

B. Write Short answers:
1.  Name (a) the law making body of India (b) the two Houses of the Indian Parliament.
An:  (a) The law making body of India is Parliament or the Union legislature.
(b) The two Houses of the Indian Parliament are- The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.     
         2.  For how many years is a member of the Rajya Sabha elected?
Ans: A member of Rajya Sabha is elected for a period of 6 years. One third of its members retire every two years and then new members come in their place.
          3. Who becomes the Chief Minister in a state?
Ans:When the Assembly Election results are declared, the party that gets the maximum seats in the legislative Assembly forms the Government. The governor who is the head of the state invites the leader of the majority party to form the government.  Now the leader of the majority party becomes the Chief Minister in the state.

Write short notes.
1.      President: The President is the head of the country. The elected members of the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha and the state legislative assemblies form anElectoral College to elect the President. The President is elected for a period of 5 years.

2.      Governor: The Governor is the head of the state. He/she is appointed by the President of India. Governor is elected for a period of 5 years. Governor invites the leader of the majority party to form the Government.

3.      Judiciary: The constitution of India provides for an independent judiciary. Judiciary means the system of courts. In India, we have the district courts, high courts and at the top, the Supreme Court.
C. Answer the Following Questions:
1.      Why do people want a Government for their country?
Ans:  People want a government for their country-
a.      To find solution to many disputes or conflicts.
b.      To make decisions.
c.       To do the things in a smooth way.
d.      To protect boundaries of the country and maintain peaceful relation with their neighboring countries.

2.      Define Democracy.
Ans: Democracy is the government of the people, for the people and by the people. This is a system of government in which people choose their own rulers.

3.      How is the President of India elected?
Ans:  The President is the head of the country. The elected members of the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha and the State Legislative Assembly form an Electoral College to elect the President. The President is elected for a period of 5 years.

4.      When does a Coalition Government form?
Ans: A Coalition Government is formed when no party gets the majority in election. As a result, many parties come together and form the government.

5.      How is Lok Sabha different from the Rajya Sabha?

1.      Why do people join different political parties?
Ans: People join different political parties for the following reasons:
1.      For healthy competition.
2.      To check the corruption.
3.      To raise voice against wrong policies of the ruling party.
4.      Different political parties have different agenda. Depending on the agenda people join different political parties.
VALUE CORNOR:
1.      We all have a “Right to Justice” and we should fight for our rights. Do you think arguing with parents or elders to watch TV longer than you are allowed to, is fighting for your rights? Why and why not?
Ans: I think watching TV for longer hours comes in the category of personal habits.
Excessive TV watching can hamper the health of the students and affect their studies as well. It does not rank in the category of “Right to Justice”.So, we cannot demand it from parents in the name of ‘Right to Justice’.
