Questions:
1. What are the two movements of the
earth?
Ans: Rotation and Revolution
3.
Name the four seasons.
Ans: Summer, Winter, Autumn and Spring
4.
When there is summer in the northern hemisphere, which season does
Southern Hemisphere experience?
Ans: Winter
Answer the
Following Questions:
1. Explain the terms: (a) Axis (b) Orbit.
Ans: (a) Axis:- an imaginary line drawn through the centre of the earth
joining North and South poles is called axis.
(b) Orbit: The earth moves round the Sun on a fixed path. This fixed path
is known as orbit.
2. Discuss
the effects of the rotation.
Ans: The
rotation of the earth causes day and night.
When the
earth rotates only one part of the earth faces sun, while the other part of the
earth remains away from the sun.
The part
that faces the sun receive sunlight and has day, while the other part is in
darkness and has night.
(NOTE:- Here
children will draw the diagram given on the page number 17)
2. How are season caused? Explain with
the help of a diagram.
Ans: The revolution of the earth (on a tilted axis) around the sun causes
seasons.
When one part of the earth faces sun, the other part is away of the sun.
The part of the earth that faces the sun experiences summer, while the
other part experiences winter.
(NOTE: Here the children will draw the diagram given on page no. 19)
3. What is a leap year? How is it
caused?
Ans: The earth completes one revolution in 365 ¼ days .
We have 365 days on our calender.
The ¼ day of every year is added to make an extra day.
This extra day is added every fourth year to the month of February.
Hence, February has 29 days every fourth year instead of 28 days.
A year with 366 days is known as leap year.
Higher Order
Thinking Skill:
Q1. Do you know in which hemisphere is the city you live in-
Northern Hemisphere or Sothern hemisphere? Which seasons are you experiencing
now? Why?
Ans: I live in Ferozepur, India. It is located in Northern
Hemisphere.
These days we are experiencing summer season.
This is because the Northern hemisphere is facing the sun
these days.
VALUE CORNER:-
Q. The earth
works on a schedule, guiding us to schedule our life too. Do you work according
to the schedule? How? Explain giving examples.
Ans: Yes I
work according to the schedule. As I get up early and go to bed early well in
time.
I am never
late for the school.
I do my
homework regularly.
I always
work according to the time table.
