people of all backgrounds could live in harmony without any feeling of high and
low, rich and poor.

you think ordinary people preserve the memory of Mirabai?
Ans: Mirabai
was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna. So she left her royal palace and began
to sing bhajans in Krishna’s temple. In her bhajans she openly challenges the
norms of upper caste. She also composed the songs in ordinary language that
could be easily understood and sang by the ordinary people.

think merchants and the bankers today have the kind of influence they had in
the eighteenth century?
Ans: During
the 18th century merchants were more influential than bankers. They
used to provide more loan opportunities at higher interest rates. But now with
the spread of education people prefer banks which provide loans and other
financial assistance at cheaper rate. Bankers also provide subsidy on the
interest rate. So they are more influential today than the merchants.
Q10. Did any
of the kingdoms mentioned in this chapter develop your state? If so, in what
ways do you think life the state would have been different in the eighteenth
century from what it is in the twenty first century?
Ans: I live
in Ferozepur, Punjab state developed in this region which was under Sikh
rulers. Now it is Punjab state or we can call it eastern Punjab. As West Punjab
is in Pakistan now.

Ans: The
rich and powerful construct large houses today. But these houses are not the
same as those of kings and their courtiers in the past. The houses of the kings
and their courtiers were big structures with big structures with big courtyard,
thick walls, domed roofs, huge pillars, big arcades and gardens and well
decorated halls. But today houses have no courtyards, domes and thick walls.

Ans: Such

very difficult to construct them but they were made possible with the help of
skilled masons and labourers. Such buildings took a very long time and time and
a number of labourers to be constructed. But now as technologies have advanced,
we have many facilities, equipment, tools which can construct huge buildings
very easily and in less time.

Ans:

means stamping a product with a particular name or sign in order to
differentiate it from other products in the market.

1. It creates a positive image of the
product in the eyes of the consumer and to compel them to buy it.
2. It differentiate the product from the
local or other competitive products in the market.
