- What are fertilizers? Are these harmful?
Ans: Fertilizers are the chemicals added to the soil to increase the productivity of the soil and excess use of fertilizers pollute the soil.
- What is compost? How can we make it?
Ans: Compost is made up of cow dung.
It is natural fertilizer.
It increases the productivity of the soil without any extra cost.
It can be made by digging a pit in the ground.
Peals of vegetables, fruits, leftover food and kitchen waste are put in the pit.
Earthworms are also put along with these.
After a few days the compost gets ready.
- Why farmer buy seeds from the market ?
Ans: New seeds are of (HYV) High yielding Variety
They increase the production of the crops and also improve the quality.
That is why the farmers have started buying new seeds from the market.
- Why croton plants are grown in the fields?
Ans: Roots of the croton plant do not go deep in the ground.
So when the top layer becomes dry, the croton leaves bend and become limp.
This signal tells that the farm needs to be watered.
- Earthworms are soil’s best friends. Explain.
Ans: Earthworms keep digging the into the soil.
Due to which air and water easily get into the soil.
The earthworms also eat dead leaves and plants and convert these into compost which is a natural fertilizer.
- How can we make compost?
Ans: To make compost
- Dig a pit.
- Put dried leaves, kitchen waste and left over food in it.
- Add earthworms in the pit also.
- They turn the waste into useful compost.
- Compare traditional ways (old) of agriculture with the modern ways (new) of agriculture.
