Ques 1-What is site? Which conditions are required for selection of an ideal site?

Ans-The place where a building or a settlement develops is called its site. The natural conditions for selection of an ideal site are-

1.       Favorable climate

2.       Availability of water

3.       Suitable land

4.       Fertile soil

Ques 2-What do you mean by settlement? Write its types and explain.

Ans-Settlements are places where people build their homes .It is of two types-

1.       Permanent settlements-In permanent settlements, people build homes to live in.

2.       Temporary settlements- Settlements which are occupied for short time are called temporary settlements. The people living in deep forests, hot and cold deserts and mountains live in temporary settlement. They practice hunting, gathering, shifting and cultivation.

Ques 3-What do you mean by transport? Write its types.

Ans-Transport is the means by which people and goods move. The four major means of transport are roadways, railways, waterways and airways.

Ques 4-Mention any two merits of railways.

Ans- 1. It is the cheapest mode of transport.

         2. It is also the fastest mean of transport.

         3. The railways carry heavy good and people over long distances quickly.

Ques 5-How is helicopter useful in remote area and why?

Ans-Helicopter is useful in remote area where there are no roads and railways. It is useful-

1.       In most inaccessible area

2.       In time of calamities for rescuing people

3.       In distributing food, water, clothes and medicinesih remote areas.

Ques 6-What do you mean by rural and urban settlements?

In rural areas people are engaged in agriculture, fishing, forestry etc.

Ans-Through newspapers, radio and television we can communicate with a large numbers of people. They are therefore called mass media.

Ques 8-Today’s world is shrinking. Why?

Ans-Today`s World is shrinking because of globalization and improved means of transportation and communication .Due to improved   communication system  we can talk or get connected with each other’s  in the world at any time by internet, phone etc. We can reach opposite corner of the world in no time due to improved means of transportation.

Ques 9- How are satellites useful?

Ans-Satellites are useful in the following ways:-

1. Satellites have made communication faster.

2. Satellites helped in oil exploration, survey of forest, mineral wealth and underground water.

3. Satellites also helped in weather forecasting and disaster warning.

Ques 10-Write uses of Internet.

Ans-Internet has not provided us worldwide information and interaction but has also made our lives very comfortable.Now we can reserve tickets for railways,airways,and even cinemas and hotels sitting at home.we can receive information on all subjects at  the click of button .Hundreds of websites and blogs on different subjects are available internet free of cost.Online testing and mobile apps have helped the students a lot.
