Q1. Did all the farmers in Dhanu’s village have their own
land?
Ans: - No, only some of the farmers in Dhanu’s village had
their own land. And other worked on the lands of big farmers.
Q2. During what time of year did Dhanu’s family get work in
the village? During what time they did not have work?
Ans: - Dhanu’s family got work from before the rainy season
till Dussehra. During the remaining six months when there was no rain they did
not get work.
Q3. Do you know any families like Dhanu’s, who have to leave
their village for months in search of work?
Ans: - Yes, I know many families who have to leave their
village for months in search of work. Even our maid’s husband and son have to
leave their village in search of work.
Q4. If people in Dhanu’s village did not leave the village
in search of work, what difficulties would they face in their village?
Ans: - If people in Dhanu’s did not leave the village they
had to face following difficulties:-
a.
They run short of money.
b.
They did not get enough food.
c.
They would not be able to fulfil their basic
needs.
d.
They could not send their children to school.
Q5. In Dhanu’s village, there can be no farming
where there is no rain. Do you think farming can be done even without rain
water? How?
Ans: - Yes, farming can also be done
without rainfall with some new methods of irrigation e.g. canals, tube wells,
rahats and sprinkle method can be used to provide water to the crops.
Q6. Dhanu’s family and many others
from the village go far away for work but some people stay back in the village.
Why does this happen?
Ans: - When many people go far away
for work, some people have to stay back to look after the houses, cattle and
elderly people.
Q7. When Dhanu and other children
leave the village for six months, what happen in the village school?
Ans: - When Dhanu and other children
leave the village for six month then only the children from the families of the
big farmers come to school.
Q8. What arrangements are made at
your home for old and unwell family members when everyone goes for work?
Ans: - When everyone goes for work,
a nurse or an attendant comes to look after the old and sick family member.
Q9. Why does Mami wish that Dhanu
should go to school for the whole year to study?
Ans: - Mami wishes that Dhanu can
study well. He can get good job. He can be independent. He can become a rich
person and can earn respect in the society.
Q10. What happens when you are not
able to go to school for a long time?
Ans: - When I am not able to go to
school for a long time I cannot cope with the advance lessons.
Q11. Dhanu has to go with other
people to other places. Can there be arrangements during that time so that
Dhanu continues his studies? What kind?
Ans: - Yes, I think he can go for
the evening schools in the new places. So that he can cover his syllabi.
Q12. Do you know of any job/work for
which people have to stay away from their families for many months? Look for
examples from this book and write.
Ans: - Some of the job/work for
which people have to stay away from their families for months are as follows:-
a.
Jobs in armed forces.
b.
Jobs in merchant navy.
c.
Studying in boarding schools.
d.
Overseas assignments.

differences in the lives of different kinds of farmers?
Ans: - Similarities:-
a.
Most of the farmers are fully dependent on
farming for their livelihood.
b.
All the family members are engaged in farming.
c.
They are mostly dependent on rain for
irrigation.
d.
Most of them are illiterate.
e.
They use old means of farming (agriculture).
Differences:-
a.
Some farmers have their own land and others are
landless.
b.
Some farmers are educated.
c.
Some farmers use modern means of irrigation and
farming.
d.
Besides farming some farmers also go for other
jobs.
