What are the different kinds of vehicles that
you can see?
Ans: - I can see bus, car, motorcycle,
scooter, auto-rickshaw, cycle etc.

What do you think they need as fuel?
Ans: Cycle does not need any fuel, but all
other vehicles shown here need petrol or diesel as fuel.

Do you ride a bicycle? If yes, where all do you
go on it?
Ans: Yes, I go to
school, playground and market on the bicycle.

How do your family members go to work from home?
Ans: My father goes to his office by his
bike, my mother goes to her school by auto-rickshaw and I and my brother go to
school by bus.

What problems do we have from smoke coming out
of vehicles?
Ans: The smoke can cause cough, headache,
breathing problem and other lung diseases.

Besides oil, what else is found deep inside the
earth?
Ans: Besides oil, coal, iron, copper, gold,
diamond, silver and many more minerals are found deep inside the earth.

What all can vehicles run on?
Ans: Vehicles can run on petrol, diesel,
CNG, LPG, solar energy and battery.
2.
What kind of problems will we face, if the
number of vehicles keeps on increasing? For example, more traffic on the road.
Talk to your elders and write about it.
Ans: If the number of vehicles keep on
increasing it would cause air pollution, road accidents, noise pollution and
traffic jam.

Manju said, “Why doesn’t everyone use a bus?
What do you think, why don’t people travel by buses?
Ans: Buses are overcrowded so people
usually avoid these. Rather they prefer to go by their own vehicle which is
convenient and timesaving.
4.
Suggest some ways to deal with the problems
arising out of the growing number of vehicles.
Ans: There are a few ways for dealing with the problem:

People should prefer public transport.
b.
People should pool their car i.e. sharing car.

Why are the prices of petrol and diesel going
up?
Ans: Petrol and diesel are fossil fuel.
They take thousands of years to renew.
So the production of this fossil fuel is
limited, whereas the consumption is increasing very fast.
That is why the prices of the petrol and
diesel are going up.

Ans: Oil is used:-

To run machines.

To run automobiles and aero planes.

Ans: Diesel is used as fuel for cars, buses,
trucks, generators and machines in factories.

DISCUSS:-

What would happen if you don’t get petrol or
diesel for a week in your village or town?
Ans: If we don’t get petrol or diesel for a
week, the life will become standstill. No vehicle other than cycle can run.
Factories will stop working. No generator can run in case of power cut.
2.
Suggest some ways to save oil.
Ans: There are some ways to save oil:
a.
Use public transport instead of personal
vehicle.
b.
Prefer walking or cycling if you need to go
short distances.
c.
Switch off the engine of vehicle on red lights.
d.
Use solar energy.
e.
Cook daals and vegetables in pressure cooker or
covered lid.
f.
Soak pulses and rice before cooking.
Q8. DISCUSS:-
1.
Have you ever collected dry wood or made cow
dung cakes? How are they made?
Ans: Yes, once I went to Arunachal Pradesh
with my friend. There I went to collect wood with her family to make bonfire at
night.
I have never made cow dung cakes but have
seen some ladies in nearby village making them. Hay is mixed with cow dung and
shape of cake is given.
It is then sun dried.
2.
Do you know anyone who collects dry wood or
leaves to be used for lighting a chulha?
Ans: Yes, my maid usually collects dry wood
and leaves for lightening chulha.
She uses these things as fuel in her
kitchen.
3.
Who cooks food in your family? What about other
families in your area?
Ans: My mother cooks food in our family. In
most of the families in our area, ladies cook food for the family.
4.
If they cook food using wood or upla (cow dung
cakes), what difficulties do they face due they face due to smoke?
Ans: If they cook food using wood or upla,
they may suffer from cough, headache, breathing problem and lung diseases.
5.
Can Durga use anything else instead of wood? Why
not?
Ans: yes, she can use cow dung instead of
wood because if she uses wood trees will be cut. And she cannot buy kerosene
oil or LPG because she is very poor.
6.
In year 1976, out of 100 how many houses used
uple and wood?
Ans: 84 houses.
7.
Which was the fuel least used in 1976?
Ans: Electricity.
8.
In 1976 LPG and kerosene were used in 10 houses
and in 1996 it increased to 18. This means that in twenty years their
use increased by 80 %.
9.
Out of 100 how many houses were using
electricity in 1996?
Ans: Out of 100, only 5 houses were using
electricity in 1996.
10.
Which fuel was used the least in 1996? What
percentage of houses used in the year 1976?
Ans: Coal was used the least in 1996. 5% of
houses used it in the year 1976.

cook food at home?
Ans: When they were young, they used coal
for cooking. They also used cow dung cakes and firewood for cooking.
2.
In the past 10 years use of which cooking fuel
has increased in your area? Use of which fuel has decreased?
Ans: in the past 10 years, the use of LPG
and electricity has increased and the use of firewood and cow dung cakes has
decreased.
3.
Guess the use of which fuel would increase and
which would decrease?
Ans: I think the use of LPG and electricity
will increase and wood, coal, and upla will decrease.
Q10. WHAT WE HAVE
LEARNT:-

Imagine that a company has given you a chance to
design a new vehicle like mini bus? What kind of vehicle would you design?
Write about it. Draw a picture and colour it.
Ans: If I would be given a chance to design
a new vehicle, I would like to design an eco-friendly vehicle that can be run
on solar power. My vehicle would easily be driven by children, elderly and
disabled.
2.
While making the design, what did you plan to
take care of:

Old people
b.
Children
c.
Those who cannot see.
Ans: I would take care of the
following things:
a.
Low floor, seat belts
b.
Closed doors grills on windows
c.
Sensors at gates and grab handles near seats.
